On Burning Shores - Common Ground Review

>> Tuesday, July 7, 2009

Hailing from Ontario, Canada. On Burning Shores is a deathcore band with a progressive edge, and a lot of energy. The band was founded in 2008 and ever since they've been very active within the scene.

Recorded at Mobus Recording Studios, Common Ground is a heavy blend of addictive riffs, pounding drums, and guttural vocals. The EP shows off the band's abilities and great musicianship, it also shows off the band's song structures and great time signatures. "Lyrically the group hits hard with a raw in your face view of a wide range of topics, covering everything from love, friendship, betrayal, to problems that we face in the music scene today."

The EP starts off with "Bridges" which is an acoustic intro, that transcends the feeling for album opener "Dare To Try" which takes the band into hardcore territory.

"Dare To Try" has a ton of riffs fitting perfectly with the drum and bass lines, while front man Mike Bacon covers the music with some hardcore vocals, and guttural screams to help intensify the guitar work.

"Blade To Betray" has a great song structure with a lot transitions. "Buckshot Mouthwash" starts off with a hardcore vibe, then breaks into riff madness.

"Tips For Better Household Cleaning" has one of my favorite transitions on the album, the song starts off with a great progressive riff, that slashes into classic NWOBHM brutality!

In an overall deal, the EP is a really great demo for what the band can do, they certainly have great chemistry, and bring out the best out of each other, seriously!

On Burning Shores takes Deathcore a step forward towards musical betterment with rich song structures, powerful vocals, memorable riffs and pounding drum and bass lines.

I give "Common Ground" a 7.6/10

Gene Simmons Says The New Kiss Album Will Be The "BEST KISS ALBUM IN 30 YEARS!"

>> Monday, July 6, 2009

Members of KISS (Gene Simmons, Eric Singer, and Tommy Thayer) have all individually issued an update about the band's upcoming album, saying it could be the "Best Kiss Album In 30 Years" from what Gene posted it seems like they had a lot of fun recording the album.

Here's what the band members had to say about the as-yet-untitled album:

MESSAGE FROM GENE

BEST KISS ALBUM IN 30 YEARS!

Our new album (title of which you'll just have to wait a bit longer for) is just a few steps from being completely done. We're planning on re-visiting one of the eleven songs, to make sure it's gotten everything it deserves. Maybe re-arranging it one last time. Then, time to mix.

The entire writing and recording process of the album harkened back to an earlier, more innocent time. A time that produced albums such as ROCK AND ROLL OVER and LOVE GUN. And, the new songs have that feeling, I have to say.

It all started with a point of view Paul had. Thetunes, Click Here To Read On.

MESSAGE FROM ERIC

NO BALLADS, NO SLOW SONGS, NO FILLERS

You Wanted The Best ?

Well the wait is almost over...

I have been hearing KISS fans say for a longtime that "All's we want is NEW KISS music" ... Well, sometimes wishes do come true !

Last December Paul called me up saying he wanted to make a new KISS record. He seemed very keen and was very specific about the approach to our latest endeavors.

He basically said he wanted us to make a KISS record and music in the purest sense. Meaning No outside writers, the BAND plays on everything, and we use vintage equipment.

MESSAGE FROM TOMMY

YOU'RE GONNA LOVE IT!

Well the brand new KISS studio album is almost ready to go - actually more like ready to EXPLODE! We finished recording last week, with the exception of one tune that needs an hour or so more --- I have to tell you it KICKS!

Paul has done a fantastic job keeping everyone in line and the direction clear. As you might have heard, all the tunes were written within the band and recorded analog -- which means hot, heavy and rockin' in the classic sense!

We definitely didn't over-think it.

From the beginning stages of writing, rehearsing and arranging the tunes, ... Click Here To Read On.

Will Led Zeppelin Save AEG Live's Ass?

>> Sunday, July 5, 2009

With 750,000 tickets sold worth $85 million, the organizers of what would have been Michael Jackson's final tour "This Is It Tour" AEG Live are in a pickle. The team are trying to put together a new line up for the 50 shows including a reuniting Led Zeppelin alternating shows with a reuniting ABBA.

The organizers hope that by putting together such a line-up (with record sales of over 600 million shared between both bands) they could still pull it off. Note that both bands have not yet confirmed that they are actually reuniting and the shows kick off on July 12th.

In other related M.J. news, CNN posted an exclusive clip from Jackson's rehearsals for the 02 Arena shows.

At the age of 50, Michael could still rip it up!

There is also a ton of pictures floating around online of his rehearsals.
